The Robert Johnson Blues Foundation's 3rd Annual Music Festival on May 5th, 2007 was a GRAND SUCCESS and opened with a prayer followed by anointed singing by The Strait Way Ministries Inspirational Choir, the family group and Hazlehurst home based Dixon Singers who reunited for this wonderful event.
Recording artist "Da Minista" offered upbeat Gospel hip hop with a message, that brought the young people to their feet and the Award winning Williams Brothers sung contemporary and traditional songs that many of us grew up listening to our mamas and big mama sing. Their soul stirring performances brought everyone to their feet.
The BLUES Show opened with a bang from the two phenomenal Robert Johnson Blues Foundation -Gibson New Generation Award winners fourteen (14) year old Tyler Bryant (2007 winner) and sixteen year old (16) Patrick Droney (2006 winner) to Copiah Counties own local star Sunny Riddell and the amazing keyboard playing of the eighty-two year old Henry Gray. Henry is the 2007 inductee to the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation HALL OF FAME. 2006 winner was Robert Lockwood.
We went down memory lane with Grammy Award winning Dorothy Moore as she sang one of her hit songs that we all grew up with, "Misty Blue". The "Blues Award Winner" Eddie Shaw and Wolfgang blew the blues on his saxophone like only he can, five time "Blues Award Winner" Rory Block with her raspy yet powerfully soulful voice sang the blues with her acoustic guitar that would have even caused R.J. to turn his head ,finally the day ended right at the midnight hour with the rump shaking sounds of the legendary blues veteran Bobby Rush with his dancing girls.

photo by Karen Robinson It was a beautifully hot Mississippi Spring day that resounded the wonderful music that Robert Johnson helped to birth right in the place of his birth. Many experienced and felt the rich heritage in the hometown of Robert Johnson. The southern food, hospitality and fun that the South is known for filled the place. If you missed this awesome event you really missed a treat. We humbly boast and revel in the belief that this day produced an aura that even our father and grandfather, Robert Johnson, would have been proud of. Until next year...See you at the CROSSROADS! |
